• Do I need a visa to come and study in France ?
If you are coming for a period between 3 and 6 months, you need to apply for a temporary study visa. You will be able to stay in France without having to obtain the student residence permit. Be careful, this visa cannot be extended.
If you are coming for a period of between 3 and 12 months, you need to ask for a student long-term visa. You will get the “carte de séjour étudiant” (“Student Residence Permit)”from the Préfecture which can be renewed after the first year.
Please note that the tourist visa for short stays (less than 3 months) cannot be turned into a long-term visa in Paris, and doesn’t allow for the acquisition of a residence permit.

During their stay the students can participate in several activities:
- lectures
- guided tours
- excursions
- sports activities
These activities encourage social and cultural exchanges.
• The accommodation in France ?
A choice of 3 types of accommodation is offered:
- Home stays
- Hotels
- Residences and apartments
• I would like to take English classes in France. How can I be sure that the school I choose is of good quality?
The school should give you clear and precise information and the documentation it provides (at least 5 days before the start of your lessons) should include:
- A list of the different programmes available
- The teaching method used. The teaching method should conform to the CECR
- The length of each lesson or course
- The teaching materials used
- The maximum number of students per class
- The extra curricular activities proposed
- The price for the classes; detailing whether administrative fees and teaching materials are included in the price
• The school should also inform you about :
- Preparation for language exams
- Whether you will have access to language labs or a multimedia library
- What accommodation or canteens / restaurants are available
- Advice and guidance services provided
- Insurance
• How can I know if the school is offering good quality lessons?
Before you start your lessons, the school will ask you to take a test which will allow them to place you in a class which corresponds to your level.
The school will adapt as you progress by always offering lessons that correspond to your level
Your teacher will be qualified (at least to Bachelor degree level) and will have 3 years experience teaching French as a foreign language.
Your teacher will give lessons in French only>BR>
The teachers are supervised by a head teacher
The school will offer a variety of extra curricular activities (lectures, guided tours and other trips)
At the end of your course, the school will provide you with a certificate stating your level based on the CECR guidelines.
• What is the best way to learn French ?
French lessons will help you to work on your written, oral and comprehension skills. The teaching methods used such as role plays and simulations help you work on the grammar and vocabulary taught. It is by using your language skills in everyday situations, however, that you will make real progress.
• How can I validate my level in French?
Different tests exist:
- the DELF and the DALF; which are required by universities
- the TCF which is often required by the Consulate before you leave for France
- the TEF
